Trustee Carroll's Resignation Letter

To: Kerri Pickett-Hoffman
CC: NSCS Board
Date: May 12, 2010 7:31:31 AM MDT
Subject: NSCS, Resignation

Dear Kerri,
North Star Charter School was founded and has been steadily building a great educational opportunity for it’s many students.  I am proud of the school and many of the results to date.

However, I am extremely disappointed in the level of dysfunction that is preventing our ability as a board to operate effectively from a sound basis of facts and role clarity.

My ability to be add value as a board member is compromised by the root causes of our dysfunctional behavior.   I have been ineffective in my efforts to influence the board to reduce or eliminate this dysfunction.

Therefore, I am submitting my resignation effective immediately.

This will allow for my position to be included in election process for new board members that will be taking place over the next few months.

I have also put together a complete set of documents that will be given to the Board Clerk which might prove to be helpful in any effort to review the record of these past few years during which we expanded the school to K-12 and constructed  the new building.

I strongly believe in our North Star Charter and Bylaws along with principles of transparency, open meetings, and effective oversight.

I remain a NSCS supporter and will assist in the future from the role of an interested patron.

Sincerely,

Ken Carroll

  1. Well, it looks like the new Board members are being lead down more bad paths.

From the July 21, 2010 minutes:
    III. NEW BUSINESS
    A. Head of School Search Update and Process: Chairman Hoffman stated
that three names are being brought forward to the board from the selection committee:
Sean McManus, Dr. Peter J. Samaranayake and Rob Sauer."

How did a new head of school applicant get included after the deadline? Was she then quickly hired without the full search committee input? Something smells really rotten here.

Parents need to demand answers now. The very special climate at NSCS could be ruined very quickly by a dictator head of school.

  2. It seems like Mr. Carroll knew what was coming.

Quote: "However, I am extremely disappointed in the level of dysfunction that is preventing our ability as a board to operate effectively from a sound basis of facts and role clarity."

In other words, Ms. Pickett-Hoffman was taking over and dominating the board.

  3. Well it does not matter if a board member resigns.
They can hang around and continue to harrass employees, I guess.

"Trustee Russell moved and Trustee Tiel seconded the motion to accept the evaluation
report for employee A, and for Ms. Kerri Pickett-Hoffman, Trustee Almberg and Trustee
Miller to go over the evaluation with employee A as soon as it could be scheduled.
Motion passed 3-0 with Trustee Potter abstaining."

Is Pickett-Hoffman STILL trying to be lord of the manner?

  4. You have to wonder about a board that can not find one thing of value IN A SURVEY OF CURRENT EMPLOYEES!

    "A. NSEA Status:
    1. Response to Survey: Trustee Russell stated that there is nothing in
the survey that should be discussed; he found it to be threatening, destructive and
inappropriate for the NSEA to conduct. John Hansen stated that it was not intended to be
    threatening, but to be constructive."

NOTHING in the survey that should be discussed?

Have you out of control dictators forgot you are representing TAXPAYERS in your position?
I think you should have found PLENTY to discuss.

I also recommend you study your errors and omissions policy VERY carefully. You are on thin ice of risking personal liability.

Oh, how is that grossly out of balance budget coming along? Maybe the staff could just work the last 4 months for free huh?
